Churches are private institutions. Further, the religious ceremony is extraneous to the civil institution. It isn't even necessary.Are churches that oppose same sex marriage required to marry same sex couples even though they oppose?

Religion and government are separate. So even the government can't force a church to marry anyone. It's up to the church.
