What privileges does the state grant married couples as opposed to non-married ones?

what can married couples do legally, that non married couples cannot do?What privileges does the state grant married couples as opposed to non-married ones?
Have sex. In many states in the US, having intercourse outside of marriage is illegal.

Also, a spouse is eligible to be covered by their partner's health insurance and to inherit their partner's property. They are allowed to file joint income tax returns. A person may claim their spouse as a dependent (also kids) on their income tax returns.

That's pretty much it. You don't get to jay walk, or drive over the speed limit just because you are married :-)
