Can married gay couples receive money from the government?

As individuals, %26amp; depending on what each person qualifies for, yes. As a couple, no.

Thanks to DOMA, the federal gov't only recognizes marriage between a man %26amp; a woman. No other state sanctioned unions other than that definition of marriage. This excludes LGBT couples who are in state sanctioned unions.

Gay couples who are in state sanctioned unions/marriages/domestic partnerships are singled out %26amp; denied those 1100+ federal benefits of marriage. The federal government needs to be equal all across the board for state recognized marriages/unions, regardless of the sex of the couple. Otherwise, they are denying rights to that gay family. How can you recognize 1 marriage in a state %26amp; not another for federal purposes just because the couple is the same sex? Aren't both couples in state sanctioned unions?

It doesn't make any sense to me, as a service connected veteran of OEF/OIF that I cannot list my wife as a dependent %26amp; receive my pension, travel pay, or benefits for her as my dependant just because we're the smae sex. She can't be buried with me in a VA cemetery ANYWHERE in this country (which is otherwise authorized for spouses of other veterans who served honorably) because she is my WIFE. We can't file our taxes jointly with the IRS %26amp; missed out on $3000 in refunds this year. And when I die, she can not collect my social security OR my veterans benefits just because she is my WIFE.Can married gay couples receive money from the government?
Even if a same sex couple is legally married in their state they will not receive any of the federal benefits of marriage due to the Defense of Marriage Act, which bars the federal government from recognizing same sex marriages and unions. It doesn't matter if you're in Connecticut, Vermont, etc. Only state level benefits can be obtained by same sex couples.

When DOMA is repealed that can all be changed. Can married gay couples receive money from the government?
What government money are you talking about?

And if there are legal same-sex marriages the couples receive the same benefits of straight marriages.
Not as a gay couple, not from the US government. The Defense of Marriage act denies that same-sex couples can be married, I think.
Can married straight people? (Read: no.)

Besides, hardly any of us can get married anyway. The government isn't really our biggest fan, they're not going to throw money at us any time soon.
huh??
