Can gay couples get married in a church ?

It might seem like a stupid question but can gay couples get married/civil partnerships in churches ? because i thought they could but my friend says that they can't

It doesn't sound like a stupid question, and I am acutally glad you asked it, as this issue is one that is used as a hot-button for those opposed to gay marriage.





The answer is yes, though not in *all* or even *any* church. A church that is *willing* to perform the ceremony or at least willing to permit thier sanctuary to be used for this purpose can be found.





The answer can only be 'no' if the church in question objects to marrying gays and refuses to perfom the ceremony or allow it's facilities to be used in this way.





The opposition uses this hot-button to claim that we, as homosexuals intend to *force* churches to perform marriage ceremonies and make it illegal for them to refuse. This is a misnomer and a complete convolution of our intent. We believe, and actually *promote* the separation of church and State. We have no intention of attempting to force those who object to participate.

They can in states that allow it. It is a gay couples constitutionally protected right to be able to get married wherever they want. however, state law (in most but not all states) says that gay marriage is illegal and that a church has no obligation to comply with the marital wishes of a gay couple. If a gay couple were ever to take this issue to court, it would quickly in up in the supreme court where gay marriage would proceed to be legalized in all states. But until some gay couple steps forward and becomes the poster couple for gay rights, that won't happen.
it depends on the church. id say most churches wouldnt. new life churches may though but more tradtional ones probably wouldnt think twice to say no.
You can find a church easily; some will not even let you rent a hall for to celebrate.
if someone wants to do something against god then y doesn't he become an atheist??the word 'gay' actually means doing something that god has not made us to do......
they should be able to. but some churches don't let them. its just not fair if you love someone you should be able to get married!! love is free!!:)
